Articles / Medicare Part D evokes many more questions from Senior Citizens
11/03/2005
November 15th is opening day for official enrollment with Medicare Part D and in order to make informed decisions, new questions have begun to crop up leaving seniors confused and needing answers.
Questions like these have not been an issue before as basic Medicare was standard and there were few influencing factors that changed the status quo. Medicare Part D however created a whole new ball game as rules and regulations for each vending company varied and the slightly different rates and policies further confused senior citizens.
Those that already had existing Medicare supplementary plans wanted to know what happens to them once they have enrolled in Plan D. Another common question was "What would happen to their existing HMO, would that have to change?"
If they already had drug coverage, would it be necessary to cancel that one and use only the Plan D format, is another matter of concern.
Many Seniors are concerned that if they don't sign up now, they will be penalized so data covering the time span allowed to enroll is also foremost in their minds. Although this has been stated in the past, so much new data emerges on a day to day basis that it is understandable that in the beginning of a new initiative such as Medicare Plan D, a lot of confusion needs to be addressed to set minds at rest.
One of the main concerns that are being voiced at the moment is "Should I stay on my current Medicare supplement plan that already has drug coverage and should I stay on my current HMO plan that has drug coverage?"
The fear is that they would lose their current coverage if they sign up for Part D.
"As November 15th approaches, more and more relevant questions will emerge that need urgent answers" said David Thau, CEO and Founder of Keep It Simple Insurance.
