Many seniors, confused by the jargon used to describe various insurance services have given up the fight and either gone with whatever their "brother-in-law in the furniture business" has said, or worse, have decided not to buy vital services that they will possible need at some stage in the future. This response is fairly standard for anyone who does not fully understand what he or she is dealing with.
"The reason I chose 'Keep it Simple Insurance' as the name of my company," said David Thau, founder and CEO of Keep it Simple Insurance, "is because rather than sell a policy, I spend more time explaining the details and repercussions of the policy that I think will best cover the needs of the client. Answering questions and assuring the client that no question is stupid is far more productive. Once the clients fully understand the terminology and the benefits, they can then make an educated decision and no selling is necessary."
An example of a common simple question that too often goes unasked is "When is the best time to buy a Medigap policy?"
The answer is "During your Open Enrollment Period, or during a Guaranteed Issue Period." "I usually spend time explaining what an Open Enrollment Period and a Guaranteed Issue Period are," said David. "That is where people often get hung up.
Purchasing a Medigap during one of these periods ensures that you can buy a plan regardless of your medical history".
The most important thing for California seniors to realize is, when planning future health security, don't do anything until you fully understand the do's and don'ts of your Medigap policy.
