Articles / Family Health Insurance Plan saves family from financial ruin.
07/26/2005
At the beginning of 2002 a happy and healthy family applied for permanent residence here in the USA. Life seemed very promising and prospects for a bright, flourishing and prosperous future seemed to be waiting in the wings. There was no problem as far as a "Green Card" was concerned as the eldest son who had been living in California for many years and was an American citizen, was going to sponsor them.
A very wise and responsible young man, he urged his family to apply for family health insurance coverage since as a sponsor, if any major health problems cropped up, he would be held responsible.
A good plan was chosen, signed up and paid for.
Six months later, with things going really well, disaster struck and the mother had a terrible auto accident on PCH. Concussion, a torn aorta, broken ribs, a collapsed lung and a cracked pelvis were just the beginning. Five weeks in a drug induced coma, dialysis for kidney failure and a tracheotomy (breathing tube) were after effects of the trauma.
Needless to say the family could only give thanks that she survived all that as well as she did.
The final cost was one million, four hundred and seventy thousand dollars.
The family health insurance plan paid out almost 100% of the bill except for a few insignificant amounts that were involved.
"That is the very thing that a family health insurance plan is designed for" said David Thau, CEO and founder of Keep It Simple Insurance "We don’t like to think of something as radical as that happening to a loved one, but if it does, and you have a reliable family health insurance plan, you would have the peace of mind which allows you to concentrate on the important things like getting her better without the burden of knowing you are headed for the bankruptcy court".
